All styles and techniques of fishing are available, including game fishing, sport fishing, jigging, casting, trolling and fly fishing, as well as bottom fishing. Whether you are a beginner with a line or a master at the craft, there is a spectacular fishing opportunity waiting for you in The Whitsundays.

The lucky anglers who frequent these waters are often treated to a plethora of species from Pacific Sailfish, Black Marlin, Wahoo, Dolphin Fish, Dogtooth Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Longtail Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Giant Trevally, Red Bass, Queenfish, Cobia, the list goes on, enough to get the adrenaline pumping just thinking about it!
Reef fishing, or bottom fishing if you like, is just as spectacular and can often result in the most delicious catch for your dinner. Large Mouth Nannygai, Coral Trout, Red Throat Emperor, Sweetlip, Cods and Snapper are all target species due to their fight, and 5-star edibility. But they are just a handful of the 1,500+ species of fish that live within The Whitsundays and neighbouring Great Barrier Reef waters.

Take the drive out to Lake Proserpine, where you can also take advantage of the free camping and give yourself more time to catch the elusive Barramundi.
There are also public boat ramps available around Airlie Beach if you have your own boat. As we are located in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, it is important to note that this world heritage area has a specific zone where fishing is allowed.
